Hello.
I am Jojo and I am 31. My braces history goes like this: my lower front teeth were crowded and the doctor decided to pull out both my 6 year molars on the lower jaw, in order to gain some space to align the crowded front teeth. Now, the problem is, those teeth are aligned but there are still some large gaps where the two molars used to be.
And the gums became smaller in those places (hourglass shape-like, kinda) and my doctor says that is useless to try and pull the back molars in order to fill in those gaps. She recommended implants or Maryland bridge, but I kinda disagree with both.
My question is: is there another possible sollution to fill in those gaps (I still have my braces on), given the fact that the gums tightened (as I said, an hourglass shape)?
Thanks alot.![]()
I would honestly get about 2 more opinions from both an orthodontist and also a dentist that specializes in bridges and implants. If the spaces are back by your molars, I wouldn't sweat it though, but I can understand you wanting it to get fixed while you still have braces on.
mods should move this thread to general braces form.
Hi and welcome to this forum jojo.
I agree with Mike ... consult with another ortho or more and find out what they recommend.
I had my second molar moved into where my premolar had been. It had been removed about 30 years earlier and the area had shrunk, but the movement forward went fine. Of course this doesn't work for everyone.
Good luck with finding the best option for you!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Thanks for the suggestion. In fact, this is my intention, to ask for a second, maybe third opinion. I was just curious if this thing works, and if anyone went through the same situation as I am. Well, since Sunny says it worked for him, that gives me little more confidence. It could work for me too, right?![]()
I would really hate to fill those gaps with something else than my natural teeth.
Thx for your replies and good luck with your braces (if you still have them).
Jojo
I wonder why your ortho just didn't have you remove 2 other teeth instead of the molars. That prob could have fixed the overcrowding with the braces and you prob wouldn't have to worry about getting implants now. But then again, I'm not an ortho but I wonder if other orthos would have gone about it with the removeable of your molars.
