Will braces + bands + herbst help me?

Hi everyone! I'm new to these forums! Haha

To start off, lemme' tell you a bit about my teeth/jaw. I have an overbite, overjet, and a deep bite. My two front teeth, top teeth, are pushed inwards, thus causing the deepbite and overjet to manifest. My lower jaw is small, which I am very self-conscious about, and I am scared it will never grow to look normal. The vertical development of the lower jaw is short, so it makes my chin look very small.

I got top braces on yesterday, and so far they hurt (not unbearable though), and will be getting the bottoms in about two months. After both the top and bottoms are straight, I will be undergoing a mandibular advancement through the use of a herbst like device and rubber-bands. My main question: will the herbst and rubber-bands fix my jaw and profile? I really don't want to have a small jaw the rest of my life

I have included a picture showing my jaw when the teeth are together and when they are apart. Hopefully this will help judge if these devices will work in my situation. Also, I heard that the lower jaw will develop drastically during puberty. My family grows very slow, and we finish growing at around 25 (I'm 16 now).

Hopefully I haven't overwhelmed you with text by now, but I would appreciate any kind of input

    Thanks in advanced

Hi and welcome to this forum!

Here's to your jaw work going well. The person who can answer your questions is your ortho. If you're not confident with these answers, you need to consult further, but I'm hoping since you've just started your treatment, this means you've already done that and chose the person best suited to treat you. This being the case, it's time to trust the treatment plan chosen for you and to look forward to the results.

It's great that you're so young and it's been confirmed that your jaw is still growing, as although for many people the jaw would have stopped developing at your age, this means that your jaw can change without surgery, which I'm sure is great news.

Write your questions/doubts down and when you next see your ortho, make sure each question is answered!

Good luck and please let us know how things progress for you!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
