    Extractions

    Hi,

I wanted to ask of those that have had their two upper bicuspid teeth removed how did you face change? I am having my two upper bicuspids removed and was wondering was anyone unhappy with the results of their final outcome with extractions.

    Thanks!

This is going to depend highly on the reason for the two upper bicuspids being removed, which is related to your initial malocclusion. Generally this is for a "camouflage" treatment in adults where the upper teeth are forward and the lower jaw is back. Another reason is for severe crowding in the upper jaw but not in the lower. Speak to your orthodontist about all the options regarding your care. Keep in mind that for larger skeletal discrepancies, this may involve a plan including surgery. Good luck!

The orthodontist stated that the reason for the two extractions would be because, of my 4mm overbite. He stated that in order for my overbite to disappear he would need to extract two teeth otherwise I would need to have jaw surgery. Since it wasn't an option for me I elected not to do the jaw surgery. I would like for my front teeth and bottom teeth to meet. I have a very small jaw and with the overbite the only way to correct this was by removal of the bicuspids. I didn't have a problem doing this but, my dentist was like why doesn't he just remove the wisdom teeth to achieve the bite. Of course he's a general dentist so he doesn't have the experience of an orthodontist.
