i'm getting my braces in 3 weeks and my ortho will use In-Ovation C ceramic braces top and metal bottom. I was reading this forums for awhile and i noticed that a lot of people are going crazy about Damon. So i'm having second thought now...
which one is better? Damon or In-Ovation C ... seriously!
Thanks
If you read more in the foreum Musclestarts, the brackets have do not move your teeth. Its a skilled ortho and the actual wire that moves everything. There is a lot of hype about damon, and weather or not all this hype is true or not, i really dont know.
What are the inovation C ones? are they self ligating?
Look forward to hearing more about your journey with wires, feel free to start a blog.

The Damon clear & inovation-c are equivalent to each other. They are both self lig and have a door or spring. The only thing is that Damon clear are all clear including the door and when the ortho showed us the two side by side I personally liked the Damon better a bit smaller and didn't have the upper/bottom protrusion which I have read chip off. Of course the Damon Clear are more recent. Of course we ask each ortho what they recommend and what they are comfortable with. The Damon ortho can use any but prefers only using Damon. The other orthos use smart clip and inovation -C. Hope this helps. What does your ortho recommend? Since he/she is the one working with the brackets.
Good luck.
Hey and remember this is looks now not performance. The inovation c are a great bracket and will give you the same result no worse and I am sure some say better than Damon. It's like chevy vs ford. Are they really that different. I am sure this would cause upheavals now.
Don't fret it. If you like the doc that the most important thing.
Musclestarts as lauralea has written, brackets don't move teeth ... so it won't matter what type of bracket an ortho uses, if this person has the skill to move your teeth, they will achieve that with the oldest or the newest in design.
Already there are newer brackets than the damon clear ... and I reckon damon will be working on another new bracket also. This is about each company trying to get the biggest share of the market.
If you trust your ortho, trust your choice. I like Annabella's comparison between the ford and chevy ...
Good luck!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I've read the quote about brackets not moving teeth - the skill of the ortho does many times on here and on another braces for adults message board. This is indeed true - I don't think anyone will dispute such a statement - after all that is just common sense! It applies to any sort of medical treatment as well - surgery, etc. That being said I also can't blame a person for choosing the technique presented if they find more then one ortho they like. Ligs appeal to some patients for certain reasons, Invisalign appeals to others for certain reasons and self-ligating appeals to others for certain reasons.
But I also think that some brands of ortho appliances/brackets/wires are indeed better quality and therefore the ortho will achieve better results. I think it stands to reason you get what you pay for - both in skill of ortho as well as the product they choose to use in your mouth. I'm sure a higher quality product is offered in all brackets (traditional and SL), wires, etc etc. Just depends on the ortho's preference and what he/she prefers to work with. Some brackets arrived on the market years ago and are still used to this day - then again there has been a lot of improvement in techniques and orthodontic products, and some of the older brackets/wires can't be compared to what is on the market today. I do believe that if an ortho was using what was used on me 20 yrs ago - he would not be able to achieve what my current ortho is achieving as well as less overall discomfort, chair time etc etc.
Orthodontia has come soooo far!![]()

I agree with much of what you say and it's interesting that there's very little difference in the price of the main products like brackets, archwires, ligs, powerchains etc. Some companies make a variety of brands ... and then they are marketed by individual companies ... and that when many changes happen.
Brackets that were designed many years ago compared to the ones made today, will have little, if any affect on treatment. The main issues will relate more to comfort level on the inside of your mouth and how they look. Wires are different, although since the memory wires, there haven't been much in the way of improvement, it's more about advancing the types of wires, like improving white teflon coated archwires and a company working on making clear archwires. If this does happen, I'm confident most ortho's who offer ceramic brackets will be considering these archwires ... the brand of which will be insignificant.
The main thing you pay for is the skill of your ortho ... after that it's about location, rent, insurances, staff costs etc.
