This tooth brush is the best electric on the market:
Sonicare Flexcare+ Hx6992/10 Pro Series With Sanitizer For Sale - BracesReview.com
Just lightly move it around the bracket on your teeth and gums and let it do the rest. Go all over your teeth very slowly and be extra careful when on the bracket.
My ortho actually gave me a sonicare toothbrush in my take home goodie bag.
That said I already owned this toothbrush:
Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide Electric Toothbrush
I used the sonicare for a couple of weeks and I didnt think it got my teeth as cleen as the Oral B so I went back to the Oral B and my teeth feel much cleaner.
We recommend our patients use a brush with the smallest brush head and also one that's soft. The reason is that you need a brush head that can move easily around the brackets at the back of your mouth, where there's not a lot of room.
We recommend for manual brushing, that our patients use a small child's soft toothbrush and for an electric toothbrush we recommend the oral b type, with the small circular brush.
To keep your electric toothbrush working well, make sure you fully charge it, then disconnect the charger and use the brush until the charge is totally discharged.
Toothpaste ... use whatever you prefer. If your teeth become sensitive, one of the sensodyne brand is a good option. My preferred toothpastes are, colgate with peroxide and baking soda. This is the toothpaste I use during the day and it also helps remove most stains that are fresh on ligs. At night I use sensodyne whitening toothpaste, due to having sensitive teeth.
Good luck with finding what works best for you!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
I have the Oral-B Pulsonic Sonic Toothbrush and I absolutely LOVE it. You can get "sensitive" brush heads for it, and it has two speeds. Plus it's like, $100 or more cheaper than the Sonicare, and it honestly works every bit as good. It's small, light, and holds a charge for about 7 days (that's brushing for 2 minutes, two and sometimes three times a day - I'm very neurotic about brushing my teeth). You can probably get an awesome deal on it on Amazon.com, I personally bought mine at Walmart and it was around $80 I think.
For toothpaste I use the kind with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and Peroxide. I just like the clean feeling it leaves. I also use Listerine antibacterial for plaque buildup control.
Welcome to your treatment, you'll soon have a whole arsenal of tooth-related items in your bathroom!![]()
Actually we have both and they are both good but everyone likes the oral b the best. It rotates and is ultrasonic where our sonic just that. It is an older model but seems to lose it charge more. Plus as Sunny said it's a smaller round brush so seems easier to get around the molars, etc. And my daughter finds it easy on her braces eventhough at first she was scared it would hurt.
But overall both are great products and will work perfectly. We bought our oral b at bed bath & beyond with a coupon years back spent about 120 for family one. But you might consider the waterpik combo. We just got the water pik for our daughter and ourselves. She really liked it for flossing. And I did too but I saw costco had the same unit plus the toothbrush as well for 90 bucks. You might do some online research.
Good luck
Waterpiks are great for cleaning food from around your brackets, but they don't floss. It's important to still floss properly as the floss does it's important work, when it's moved gently below the gum line to remove any debris that has gotten there. Left behind this can result in gum disease, which can result in a person's teeth falling out. I've had gum disease, fortunately it was mild, but I have permanent bone loss as a result of it.
Make sure your daughter knows never to face the waterpik at her gums and only uses it on a low pressure.
I hope her treatment is continuing to go well!![]()

I just got the same toothbrush at Walmart, too! I LOVE IT!! I especially like that it has a "sensitive" speed, so I can use that one when the gums and teeth are bit ... sensitive. I like the little "buzzes" it gives you at the 30-second and 2-minute intervals; however, I was expecting to hear a "beep" for some reason, so when it buzzed, I had to pull it out to make sure I didn't accidentally turn it off or to another setting. LOL!I can get to my back 3rd molars rather easily, too, and those are my problem areas. I think I paid about $67 for mine.
I will probably bring my regular old manual toothbrush to use at work after lunch.
