I know how you feel, in the beginning of my treatment I experienced pain like I've not quite ever felt. It just hurt so bad!! I found that if I drank lots and lots of water, and took 800mg of Motrin IB twice a day, it really helped with the pain. Taking a single Tylenol won't do anything for you. Soon as you safely can, take at least 600-800mg (3-4 pills, since they usually come in 200mg pills) with whatever food you can eat, and see if that helps you out. You can also try some orajel to numb your gums if it gets to feeling too bad. If you're concerned that this may be more than 'normal' pain you should call your orthodontist and tell them.
Soft liquid diet until the pain subsides, and like Denise said, Motrin (Ibuprofin, advil ect) is better than tylenol because it is an anti-inflamatory.
Give it some time, it will get better, and the pain will subside on its on.

That sounds a bit rough Divs! Try and keep as relaxed as you can and don't do anything too energetic while the pain is peaking. You and your body will adjust and before long this feeling will be gone, but do whatever you need to help yourself through this. Some people find applying warmth to the face helps, others prefer cold. Trial both, and see if one or the other helps.
Use over the counter pain meds and if there's a gum ache, try the numbing creams that you can use on mouth sores to help that area feel better.
Rinse with warm salt water as often as you can, as this is both soothing and healing.
If you really feel this pain is more than you can cope with, give your ortho's office a call and ask them for advice.
Hopefully you're already feeling heaps better!![]()

how do u do tickerfactory.com thing i went to their website but didnt got anything related to braces category to fill in the info????????
Divs here's the link for the ticker factory.
Great your ortho has helped and here's to your mouth feeling loads better very soon.
I found my lowers took more adjusting to than my uppers. There wasn't any pain, just a 'full' feeling, that took a few weeks to get used to.
Good luck!![]()

Hi Divs, I am with Denise, I had the most terrible pain and sensitivity at the start of my treatment. My teeth literally felt bruised. Take pain killers if you are able to and just be gentle with yourself. Eat soft foods, mac and cheese, mash potato, yoghurts, smoothies soups, oatmeal stuff like that. Its important to eat, I didn't and fainted-no joke! Then what I find helped was to get some sugar free gum, half a stick and just hold it in your teeth and gently press down, rotate the gum so you can squish it and do it over and over-not a full of bite down but just pressing the gum. It helps to stimulate blood flow and gets things moving and the pain gets less and less.
As Sunny says keep hydrated, use the salt rinses. Keep wax handy and gob it on if you have to.
The pain subsides I promise. xxxxxx
