    Not happy with results

I had an edge to edge bite. When I started treatment, the bite went back to a normal position. Fast forward months later and right before I'm supposed to get my braces taken off, my bite shifted back forward a bit. I'm back to having difficulty talking. I think my bite shifted forward, when my ortho told me to stop wearing my rubber bands 24/7. I went to my ortho to address my concerns, and at first she didn't see what I was talking about. She finally noticed and then said that there was nothing she could do. I don't understand how my teeth initially went back into normal position, then shifted later, and now there's nothing they can do.

This sounds really frustrating. I think you need to explain to your ortho how frustrated you are about this, and that you need an answer that you understand.

This may be a case where the elastics correct how your jaw sits, but when they're removed the jaw won't stay there, as there's been no surgery.

Good luck finding out the facts you can accept.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I'm very frustrated, but don't know where to turn. My ortho was quite rude to me about it and said basically that I'd have to live with it. As for surgery, I've consulted with oral surgeons before and they said that I wasn't a bad enough case for surgery and that my problem was orthodontic.

Perhaps your ortho has a partner in the practice that you might consider talking with? Maybe another opinion might help, and perhaps you can complete treatment with the other ortho, particularly because you have probably paid for a lot of your treatment.

My daughter's ortho has a partner in his practice, and although they don't advocate switching orthos midstream (different roads followed to get to the same place and all), they are willing to accommodate if needed.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better about it all soon.
