    Got Braces Today

I got ceramic braces put on both the bottom and top of my teeth. I have a 100% overbite, so my ortho put some glue on the back of my teeth so the top wont hit the bottom. However, every once in a while when i talk, the top tooth hits one of the bottom ceramic brackets and it hurts. I was wondering if this was just temporary... it hasn't even been 3 hours since i got my braces put in.

    Hello,
I have the same thing too. The dentist built my molars up so that my top teeth wouldnt hit my bottom brackets. I have hit one of the bottom brackets too and oh boy that hurts quite a bit. I have only done it a few times however, maybe it is possible they didnt put enough filler in?

You definitely don't want your teeth hitting the brackets. It can cause chipped teeth, and nerve damage to your tooth. I've had the nerve issue twice. Both times it was because they didn't put enough molar buildup on. It started with a tingling in the one tooth and progressed into downright searing pain. Never failed that each time they put more molar buidup on, and the teeth couldn't touch the brackets anymore, the pain went away. I don't think it would hurt to call your ortho and ask for more help with that.

Congrats on your braces!! I'm very excited for you to start your treatment!!

    Hi and welcome!

Pleae contact with your ortho immediately. It's important that your teeth don't bang on the brackets, so it sounds like your 'buildup' isn't quite high enough.

    Good luck!

Also, the end of the archwire on the top are cutting my cheek. Its super sharp and the inside of my cheek has a little cut and is bleeding. Is the end of the archwire supposed to be that sharp?

no the archwire should not be poking out, best thing to do is immediatly put wax on the wire were it sticking out and call your ortho to see if you can go in and get the wire trimmed.

How big is the blobs of glue supposed to be? When i fully bite down, there is enough space between my back teeth that i can fit my tongue through the gap, so probably a little less them half a cm.

The buildup is supposed to be high enough to prevent your upper teeth touching the lower brackets.
