Can wisdom teeth fill in extraction gaps???

I had four premolars for my braces treatment and I really wish I would have know better but my ortho kinda bullied me into it. I felt like it was the only option even thou case wasn't bad. When I would try to ask her questions she would say " don't worry about it I know what doing" now my gaps haven't fully closed yet and I don't want them to! Is it porssible that when my wisdom teeth come in they can fill in the spaces made by the extractions?? I hope so. That's what my orthodontist said but now I'm worried she's closing the gaps? Isn't there some way to save the gaps and continue the braces treatment since I don't know when my wisdom teeth are coming out. I'm turning 19 next month. Pleasee help

Maybe I'm not reading this correctly... Please correct me if I've misread your situation...

You'd rather your ortho keep the 4 gaps open, in the hopes that when/if your wisdom teeth come in, they'll somehow push the other molars forward to cover the gap made by the extraction of the premolars?

I hate to break it to you, but your wisdoms may not ever come in. I was in my 30's and my wisdoms NEVER came through. In fact, they were impacted and a couple of them were growing sideways and causing crowding of my lower teeth, and I had to get them all removed. You would rather go around with 4 gaps in your teeth and have them not even attempt to close them... waiting for the wisdoms... and then a year down the road when they haven't come in yet, you will have wasted all that time when your gaps could've been closed?

Your ortho needs to get those gaps closed. From what I've heard, it can take a while, depending on the difficulty of your case, which only your ortho can really determine. (I thought my case would be pretty cut and dried because I, too, have fairly straigh teeth. Now, when I look at them, I must've been in denial because I see all kinds of things that could be fixed, and I'm so glad I'm doing this now.) I'm having one premolar removed this weekend, and was told it could take a few months for the gap to close.

Regardless of whether or not your wisdoms come in or not, that area of your mouth is so far back, nobody will even notice.

Thank you for your reply . You are right. I'm just scared of having my teeth pushed back and how it's going changey facial structure. my ortho told me the same thing. But she said I can still keep my wisdom teeth. I don't want to lose fourier teeth. I asked her where will they fit since the gaps are being closed? She didn't give me a straight answer but she did say something about using bands on my back teeth. What does this mean?

    Hi again-

I'm in a similar situation as you, because I'll be having an extraction this weekend, which will leave a gap that needs to close. I posted a question here asking how extraction gaps were closed, and got some really good answers, including one from Dr. Tam, an orthodontist. You should check it out.

At this point, we both (myself included) need to trust in our orthodontists' expertise, as they went to school to learn how to do this type of thing. It's very hard for me, too, to trust in something when I can't imagine what the finished product will look like. Denise, another braced person here, also had teeth extracted, and she'll be getting hers off (hopefully) within the next 6 months or so. Her teeth look great!

Hang in there and try to relax. I will try to take my own advice.
