    New Orthodontist

If anyone remembers my posts, I haven't had many nice things to say about my old orthodontist. I have been in to see my new one twice after the move and I am so relieved and hopeful and... just yay. He seems really great, everyone at his office has been great too.

Some of the things I've been so worked up about that my old ortho ignored this new one noticed and mentioned it on his own. I didn't even have to ask a billion questions to get the answers I've been wanting for months!

The only bad part is it will cost over $1,000 more than expected and 6 months to a year longer too. That's okay though. Also he wants to use TAD things which really scares me. Having a decent smile when it's all done is well worth it.

This week I have my first real appointment to re-do some of the brackets that are in the wrong place and continue to pull my top teeth back.

Great you have confidence in your new ortho and his team!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

thats good news.. the extra $1000 is a small price to pay for a good doctor and someone you trust.

So how smoothly did things go with switching your otho?

I am in the process right now, only moving 3 hours away but due to my current ortho only being open 2 days a week it won't allow me to finish with them.

My doctor told me when I discussed this with her that about 90% of the time the new doc will want to remove the "old" braces and put new ones on. Did you find this to be true.

She also said that often that you will be viewed as a new patient in consideration for cost.

I'm in a spot because I really like and am completely confident in my current doctor's plan and ability, but just won't be able to finish with them (have a year or more of time left)

Any info on your experience would be great.

    Thanks

It went pretty smoothly. The new one didn't need everything from the first one and I guess all the records didn't get sent over. They do view it as a new patient taking new xrays, new molds, new contracts, in my case a different plan. The new ortho is only replacing some of the brackets because he doesn't like where they are positioned on my teeth, other than those he's leaving the old ones on.

I have a simmilar question. The ortho I was planning on going to to get damon braces would end up costing $1300 more than the first ortho I saw. im happy with both of them so its not like one ortho is better than the other in my opinion. Anyway I had the records appointment where I got the moulds and photos taken which cost $290 which after giving me the quote was not money well spent. Im wondering if I can take the moulds and/or photos (he also has my x-rays) from the expensive ortho and give it to the other to save the time and money by doing it twice?

I guess you'd have to ask both offices if they'll do that. Both orthos I saw had free consultation/records appointments, so I'm not sure how they'd feel since they charge for it.

    Thanks for the response.

I'll just have to find out when I move. Hopefully it won't be much more expensive or longer than my original treatment plan.
