will my braces help my overbite?

i have an overbite of about 10mm and was offered surgery however i turned it down because im not really phased by it and hadnt even noticed it had effected my looks that much before

so i got a normal brace and my teeth are straightening it up really well, ive had it on for coming up to 3 months

i was wondering though will they attempt to lessen my overbite? i know that it will never be perfect but will they give me rubber bands or something to make it smaller and when if they do? surely they should have done that at first

im worried that they assume im not worried about the gap at all because i said no to surgery, even though since it all cropped up ive become really self conscious of it

Sally you need to talk to your ortho and ask what can be done without surgery. Usually elastics are used to draw the upper teeth back in the arch. How much this can be done in your case depends on how much space you have available.
