Faith's appointment was yesterday morning and she survived lol! She handled everything like a trouper. Last night, her teeth began to hurt her as expected but the motrin seemed to help, although cleaning was still uncomfortable. We also had a little trouble figuring out how to put the wax on, so I would love to hear any advice on that. All in all, she's doing fine and I am so proud of how well she's handled things so far - not to mention all the extra work this is going to be! I'm not sure I could have done it at her age.
Congratulations! My daughter found that warming the wax with her fingers (and keeping it dry) made it easier to apply. Also, there are a few froum members who use some other sort of goop that works like wax but sticks more easily. I'm sorry, as I can't remember what it is called, but hopefully they will weigh in!
Hot weather...braces...ICE CREAM!
Gishy Goo is the name of the stuff. http://www.GishyGoo.com It is WAYYY better than Wax (wax tastes like you have a candle in your mouth, completely disgusting). Gishy goo comes out as a putty, you roll it into a little ball with your fingers and tap it onto the bracket, and it congeals around the bracket and feels just like a tooth. You can get it in some funky colors (and in the regular tooth color which is what I have). I think it even comes in flavors. My orthodontist stocks it, and gives it to me for free, but a lady on here ordered some online at my recommendation and loves it every bit as much as I do. It's a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but I gave her some pointers and after about 2 days of using it, she had it down to an art. Oh and you aren't supposed to eat it, so remembering to take it off to eat is hard, because it's so comfortable to wear that I was constantly forgetting to take it off haha. Good luck to Faith, it's not a fun process with braces, but she'll be so glad she got them when they are off!!
Thank you for the advice! I will be sure to check out the Gishy Goo. Faith is getting into the routine and we are slowly but surely figuring things out!
Fantastic that Faith's treatment has started. Wax gets easier to use the more a person practises with it. I find the important thing is to use a generous amount, warm it slightly as I roll it into a ball and then cover the bracket with a generous amount and gently mould it around the bracket.
Good luck Faith and remember to keep well hydrated!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
