    Results from my first consultation

    Hey there.
I just got back from my first consultation. I was really really nervous and shaking. The ortho was soooooooo nice.

Well firstly let me say he told me I have an overbite (when clenching back teeth together my top teeth go very far down over my bottom teeth) although this is true my teeth still touch and i dont actually ever smile in that way to have it occur and it doesnt bother me a bit. He said that it wont effect me now but when I am an old lady that it might cause some problems.

So anyways he asked me what bothered me and why did I seek his services. I told him about my front four teeth. (basically my two front teeh at the top go inwards and the two on either side stick out. (there are pictures in my other post somewhere)

So I was given two choices

    1) fix my wonky top teeth and fix my overbite..

This would require extracting two teeth. Wearing a removable (lid of mouth) brace for a while And then wearing normal fixed braces top and bottom for about 2 years.

He quoted me £2500 for this. I would also have to pay addition cost at the dentist for the extractions and I have no idea how much that would cost.

    2) Only fix the top wonky teeth and leave the overbite.

This would require no extractions (YAY). Wearing a fixed brace on the top teeth for about 12 months.

£2000 for Radiance brace (clear version of metal brace)
or £1900 for normal metal (nhs style) brace

I was so happy and he was sooooooooooo nice that I decided to go with option number 2 - radiance brace.

He took moulds and Xrays (the xray was terrifying I nearly peed my pants) the assistant made me stand still for 18 seconds and for some reason I just started shaking like a leaf because I was trying to be a statue... :|

I booked my appointment for October as I needed time to think about it and to save up the £2000.

    I cannot WAIT.

I couldnt bare to have the two healthy teeth pulled imo an overbite that isnt even noticable and has never bother me isnt worth loosing too teeth over.

When I first mentioned to my regular dentist that I wanted braces, he said it was a good idea but that the orthodontist would probably want to remove my wisdom teeth, which to me, appeared strong and healthy. So I was very concerned about this. If it's not broke, don't fix it! And I was almost to the point where if getting braces meant removing these teeth, that it might even be a deal-breaker. But fortunately, both orthodontists I consulted with said that they could do the work without removing the teeth, and probably even create a little more space back there for them to reside (they are fully erupted and aligned ok). So I understand your choice. I am anti-extraction, unless it's totally necessary!

Congrats on deciding to go forward with this! It's a big decision! I get my braces on in a few weeks. The waiting is the worst. I don't know how you're going to wait till october!

thanks! yeah i dont know how i will be able to wait but i have to because i dont have the money to pay for it yet lol. well he does do pay spread over 9 months but i never buy anything if i cannot afford it. tbh i was expecting it all to cost way more... maybe like £3500 so i was very happy to hear £2000. i would have considered my problem minor so i am glad it is not so much. but i dont want to say goodbye to two perfectly healtyh straight teeth for no reason. perhaps when i am much older and it starts being a problem i will have braces again to fix it but for now i am young and i just want straight teeth.

Fantastic that you've found a treatment plan you're happy with Saetia!

That's a great price for ceramic brackets!

Good luck with your treatment going smoothly!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
