    Bite Issues

How does an ortho determine if your bite is perfect or not? Is it through x-rays or by just looking at your bite? I am on month 18 of 24 and my bite still feels way off on the left side. When I brought it up to my ortho he had me bite down and open & close a few times and he said, "your bite looks good, I don't understand why you feel like that." I'm just a little scared that he will determine how my bite is by just looking at it. When you look at my bite it looks fine, but from the inside it doesn't feel right and it just feels off on one side.

hey, my ortho told me my bite was not so good just by having me clench my back teeth together and then looking at it.

xrays are just for showing if roots are strong i think.

Mariagn it's about how your teeth come together when you bite ... especially when looking at the molars. Talk to your ortho and explain where it's feeling 'wrong' for you and if your orhto say your bite is good, ask to be shown how he knows this. Then you can compare this to what it feels like for you.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

When I started my treatment I had a class I bite, but after time I started getting a class III on the left side so I was started on a rubberband ("Bill") on my left. My next appointment after that one, I was told to wear one on each side at night only and I have been wearing them like that ever since, but my left side isn't touching correctly and it just feels plain weird. I was hoping that there was another way the ortho can check on my bite than just looking at it because I'm worried that it my bite might look good, but not be good. If that makes any sense. When I run my tongue through my teeth on the inside, I feel the 2nd to last molar be a little more slanted in than the upper one and they do not touch correctly like on the right side. I will keep bringing my issues up to my ortho until my bite feels better and I will not take them off until they do. I should have 6 more months left, but I am not certain if this will be the case. Thanks to both for the replies.
