What is wrong with my jaw?

    Hello forum, im new.

There is something wrong with my face but I don't know what. I think I have a malaligned jaw or something, because apparently, there's more fat stored in my left cheek than in my right one.

When I was a kid, my jaw used to pop when I moved it sideways. I didn't do anything about it and the popping went away after a while.

How can I fix this? Should I get braces? I read somewhere braces can fix jaw assymetries.

Braces can most certainly fix most mild jaw and bite issues. You want to stay away from thte surgery and leave it for a last resort.

Unfortunately Im sure it will take you SEVERAL ortho consultations until you find a dr. that is confident he can fix you atleats 75% with just braces...

I'd ignore the ones that say surgery is the only option.

My brother had a bad underbite and with the help of rubber bands, jaw wideners, etc he was able to fix his underbite about 90% and was real happy with the results.. cost wise he must of saved over 10,000.

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Thanks Stephanie.

Anyways, I noticed my lower jaw is asymmetric. The right part of my lower jaw is longer than the right side. Im getting really self-conscious over this and really want to fix it.

believe it or not most of our jaws our asymmetic. When you look at people you can usually notice.. i know I notice when I see someone that has a perfectly symmetric face... it is rare.

My lower teeth do not align perfectly with my uppers. we are working on it. but i doubt they will be perfect.

It really comes down to what will make you happy or if you can live with it.. for some it gives character, but I can understand you wanting to fix it if it is an option...

I'm Getting Braces for This Reason

    ooh whee!!! My first post.

I'm planning to post this too to introduce myself... but I'm posting it here first because I think this info. might be helpful

I am getting braces due to a pretty significant misalignment the mid line (6mm) which has caused my arthritis in my TM joint. I am 29. I get them installed in two weeks, and I think that they're going to work out, because I've been wearing a splint to correct the misalignment which has DRASTICALLY reduced the pain and popping (which was SO LOUD you could hear me THUNK from across the room). Unfortunately, I cannot chew as effectively since my muscles have been keeping the mid line in place, so I have to slide my jaw BACK into it's unfortunate diagonal position in order to eat anything. It hurts.

The braces will move my teeth so that they nest together, and it will align the mid line, and keep my jaw from popping out of place. It will also curb the arthritis before it gets worse.

Hello everybody!. Yesterday I got a wisdom tooth removed and it didn't hurt at all (I heard some horror stories beforehand), the only thing I felt was extreme discomfort (sure, I couldn't feel the pain, but the feeling of your bone getting chopped with a small knife isn't the most pleasant feeling)

Anyway, I'm going to return to the office next week to remove the stitches, and I'm going to ask the doctor about my jaw problem. I don't know if he noticed because he didnt say anything. I think I have TMJ or something, because when I was kid my jaw used to pop, I didn't do anything about it and the popping went away after awhile. Also, the left part of my jaw bone seems longer than my right one. Didn't I mention this already? lol I think I did.

    Thanks everybody!

research TMJ and then find an orthodontist that specializes in TMJ issues.
