The estimated cost is $4,000 -$5,500 is the average cost. It depends on thetype of braces you are getting and the length of time you will need them. I have my first consultation on Monday the 8th. I'm in my mid 30's and finally decided to get them after accepting the fact that my daughter needs to have braces also . So my daughter already went for her consultation and she needs them for 2 yrs. This orthodontist does NOT charge different prices for the clear braces, metal or gold braces. They are all the same price.Hers will be $4,500 if we pay it within 90 days. If I choose a payment plan it will cost $5,000 plus interest. I had to get a bank loan which toock like 2 months to finally get one that I could live with lol. My daughter wants the clear with metal wire. I am choosing the gold with gold wire. The gold is not a dark bright gold but a nice pale gold that blends in with tooth color much better. I seen some woman with the gold and they looked great. I still dont know how long I will need them ,just crossing my fingers its not more than 2 yrs.
My sister mentioned to me that if I went to a "dental school" that the braces were like 50% cheaper than what I'm paying. But..... I have severe dentist phobia. So I finally got the courage to go to an orthodontist ,I'm not going to risk it by going to a student to fix my teeth!

Almost all orthodontist have a payment plan or financing is available. There is always an out of pocket down payment. Just to cover the first tests,molds,x-rays,extractions and brackets

Sorry for the long post! Hope this helps

My sister and I were in braces at pretty much the same time and we got a family discount so between the two my parents only had to spend about $7000.00 for two full sets.

Wow! Lucky you! My daughter and I are both wearing braces from the same orthodontist and between both braces we are paying $10,000. I really wish there was some sort of family discount. I was almost considering not getting them at all because of the high cost but it was now or never and I took it!
There is another orthodontist really close by me and he charges $3,000 -$3,500 average price for braces. Theonly reason I would not consider going there is because I was told by two of his patients that he is really rough, doesn't talk much etc...

And you didn't go to him because he doesn't talk too much? my my! You could have saved a lot of money there. I had them so long ago, I dont remember how much it was. I think it was somewhere in the 4K range. I had no insurance of any kind. For something so annoying, it sure does cost a lot.

I think you missed the part that he's VERY ROUGH lol
Both patients of this ortho said that adjustments were VERY painful because he pulled and yanked and never even asked "does this hurt" or "let's try this" Having someone have that "special gentle touch" sympathetic and truly listening to patient's concerns is very important to me. I would hate for my ortho to ignore my questions and concerns.
To me it's more important than having my car fixed. For certain things I prefer to pay a little bit more and have 100% guarantee on quality/service

I also went to a dentist when it was time to have 6 teeth extracted in one day. I was extremely nervous and he had no patience for someone like me even after I explained that I was barely getting 4 hrs of sleep for the past week because I was so worried about getting 6 teeth pulled in one day. You know what his response was? He stood up and crossed his arms and asked me " What's your problem?! I mean what's the big deal?"He charged REALLY cheap for the extractions at about $60 per extraction. I ended up walking out and found an oral surgeon that made me feel calm without worries. Yes I paid more but I had no pain ,pain meds were available and even a 1 min over the phone prescription was called in by him for me. All in all I think you get the service you pay for. My teeth would have probably been straight for $3,500 but with a lot of terrible service and unnecesarry pain. Or pay $5,000 and have an ortho that called me at home the next day to see if I was ok the first 24hrs of being braced. He went through braces himself and can totally relate to everything about this.

Ahhh I envy you. I wish I had the luxury to do that. It's hard enough gathering 3k to fix teeth. So, we poor folks at the bottom end of the food chain would have to keep telling ourselves that the idea of a dentist with that "special gentle touch" is just an urban myth. We go in with whatever we have and hope that we come out in one piece. Life is just one big casino for us  we gamble it away........

I'm glad that you could be you Gennel, Nice to talk to u. Have a sweet n happy life babes.. smoooch.

    Gennel,

When you have the gold braces placed on, can you post a picture please. I would love to get the gold braces but so many people have told me that it would be so tacky, unprofessional, etc.. I think the gold would be nice though. I wish when I went to the orthodontist that offers the gold brace I had ask to see them in person. Now I am trying to decide what to do.

Cherylyn it's been over three years since Gennel posted on this forum, so I'm not confident she stops by any more.

I recommend you contact the ortho who uses the gold metal brackets and ask if you can have a look at them. Add that you'd like to see them on real teeth, so you can make an informed decision about which brackets you'll prefer.

Do remember, that they may look different on you. Your skin colour, the shade of your teeth, the shades inside your mouth and even the clothes you wear can affect the light reflected from your braces and how they look to you.

    Good luck making your decision!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Suggest firing up your search engine of choice, and typing in "orthodontic braces" then refining the search with the term "gold" then clicking for images. I tried this - bing turned up a few more on the first page of results than Google.
I am not a dental professional.

As it says on the main Bracesreview.com page, always consult a qualified orthodontist, dentist, or medical professional with questions you may have.

I'm paying around $4200 that's for ceramic tops and metal bottoms. I don't have dental insurance that covered the cost of my xrays, so I think if you do it's less expensive. And sometimes your ortho can determine your braces isn't for cosmetics purposes and you can file a claim with your insurance company. But your teeth and your bite will have to be really bad for that to happen.

My braces are necessary prior to surgery and the insurance company will still only cover $1,000 for the lifetime of the patient. Dental insurance is a constant running joke, and a bad one at that.
