    Braces Nearly Off but Pain

Hi everyone. I'm due to have my braces off sometime in the next 6-8 weeks. I just visited the ortho Oct. 19. When I went out to eat on Sunday I had a dull pain in my tooth (more annoying but enough to make me stop eating) and when I went to the bathroom found out that I had a hard piece of lettuce stuck in-between that tooth. I got the food out and thought that was the end of it. When I started eating today, the same thing happened and that same tooth is sore and my bottom teeth are aching. It feels more like gum irritation, but the pain did not/has not stopped since. I'm about to take a pain killer now. I've flossed and everything and that annoying ache is still there. I'm calling my ortho in the morning to find out what is going on.

What gives? Has this ever happened to any of you?

There are always some strange days where my teeth hurt for no reason and sometimes feel loose. Congrats! You've only had braces for 8 months and you're already getting a debanding date!! Wow that seems pretty fast. If you don't mind can you post some before and after pictures?

I went to the ortho today and I had a piece of food stuck in there. They said that it caused a very minor gum infection but all should be clear by the end of the day and it was. I have no pain.

I have pics posted on my blog but i will post some more soon! I can't wait to have them off now!!

I had the same thing happen to me on the gum where my bottom wisdom tooth USED to be. I guess there was some food that got stuck and aggravated it, causing an infection. It lasted probably 3-4 days. I freaked out at first, but it went away after rinsing it with salt water a couple days.

That is the weird thing light, I use a waterpik and floss and food still managed to get in under there. It tried to get aggravated again after I ate something else a few days later but I did the exact same thing that the ortho did and all was well. The original culprit was an Arby's roast beef sandwich.

I am glad it wasn't anything bad like a cavity. It is strange how sometimes food can get stuck in places we don't realise while in braces, especially when we brush and floss!

Wow 8 months in braces and you're nearly ready to have them removed... I wish mine were coming off soon!
