What you are referring to is known as relative extrusion. In other words, to close the space in the anterior, the teeth can be tipped inwards, whereby the edge of the tooth will appear lower in the mouth. If your teeth start of proclined, meaning tipped forward, then this will likely happen.
If your teeth had the correct tip, then you will want them to come back at the same angulation while the space is closing.
As the lips retract during profile retraction, your lips will likely sit lower on your teeth, since the lip is not as stretched out forward.
There are ways to extrude the teeth further, but there may also be limitations based upon the location of the jaw bones, thickness of the lips, elasticity of the lips, etc.
