Powerchains can be used to close the gap, along with a strong archwire. Should pull things forward like you like, and tighten up the spaces.
Hey all. I'm 7.5 months into closing gaps (pulled four 1st bicuspids for a bimax protrusion/class II malocclusion). My concern is this: my gaps are about 1mm from closing, but it looks like the teeth are closing space, at least partially, by tilting inward. I've Googled photos of extractions, and I notice many times the teeth tilt inward (toward the tongue). I do not want to close space in this manner, and I just left a message with my ortho saying so (but he is gone for the holiday). I want my back teeth to move forward to close the space rather than tilting teeth inward. The reason I prefer this is that I feel my smile is narrowing a bit--the canines were more in front, and now they're moving to the side (which I also don't like). Could anyone give me advice? I realize I have to talk to my ortho, and I will after the holiday.
i understand how u feel, now even when i talk or smile, my lips will be go over a side...it looks like i had lips surgery...
really hate it
Tomorrow I am going to demand he pull the back teeth forward instead of the front back. Why doesn't he do this on his own? Is there downside? Or is it just easier to pull front back?
So you said you had bimaxilliary protrusion..how severe was your bimaxilliary protrusion?? Are you saying now that you feel your teeth have been pushed too inwards, or is it just the tilt of your teeth that concerns you???
Are you currently satisfied with your profile?? If so you could probably tell your ortho to pull back teeth forward. it is doable.
I have the same exact problem (Bimaxilliary protrusion) and have all 4 first premolars out. I'm pulling teeth back now (just started that with class II elastics and powerchains). My ortho told me he is going to watch carefully with pulling back and once we are satisfied with how far back my profile is, he can stop and bring the back forward to close. He also mentioned that he will make my teeth straight up and down because at the moment they are proclined outwards, so i assume he doesn't plan to tilt them in but make them straight.
Do you have pics Maxhammer? how long did it take your gaps to close and what was the method of closure?? did you have elastics/powerchains? i elastics, what configuration?
Hi. The bimax protrusion isn't severe at all. It's probably not even true BMP. Yes, after the extraction my teeth were being pulled too far back--the two front incisors were broad, but then the lateral incisors and canines went straight back (imagine a V shape with the point of the v being the front incisors). I complained. My ortho said he could widen it later, but I told him I needed it more broad. At that point he said he'd bring the back teeth forward the 1mm we had left to close. We're doing that with springs and TADs. I already like it better, and it's just been three days. The problem with pulling back is you lose all lip and nasolabial support. That's why people complain about "aging" after extractions. I think bringing back teeth forward a bit is a good compromise, and should produce better results. Though, a lot depends on facial structure. My nose is fairly large so the further back I went the worse that looked. I do have some photos. I'll try to post them.
