Are bicuspids also called pre-molars? I will be getting those out next week.
Hello, im new here but i want to share my story with u guys.
I just got my 4 teeth pulled out (bicuspids) yesterday without knowing all the problems that it may cause.
I've research information about it, and seen people with sunked in face but i need your opinion.
My face is pretty long like a triangle, my lips are thick and my smile is kinda wide. When i got my teeth pulled out i came back home to looked at my teeth and immediately realized that my smile was not going to be the same, because being my lips thick my smile will look shorter.
Unfortunately i didnt do a research about before getting them extracted. I havent talked about it to my dentist yet and will probably do it this week.
My upper teeth are pretty crowded but not as my lower ones. When i look at them in the mirror i see that even if they get straightened they are not going to fill all those spaces!!! And if my back teeth is moved forward it will probably cause some jaw problems.
What should i do? get other orthos opinion about it? I would prefer to get them implanted back and try to correct them ? I really dont know what to do, im pretty scared with all these things i've been reading, and yea there are risks with TMJ problems and i dont want to have them... is it possible to get my teeth implanted back? Im going to try to upload pics later, thank you.

The Crime: Protruding upper canine, upper and lower crowding.
Sentence: 2 years
Fine: $4,100
First day with brackets: 12/05/2011. 4 Extractions: 12/12/11. 1st Adjustment: 01/04/12. 2nd Adjustment: 2/15/12 Pulling the canine down. 3rd Adjustment 3/28/12 (canine's in the wire, and pulled into position!). 4th adjustment: 5/16/2012 (closing the gaps!)
I am getting 4 pre molars out (not sure what theyre called). When I look at my teeth, I too wonder how they will fill the gaps. But, they also told me, that my teeth are too far foward, and when they move them backward the gaps will lessen, as well as my canine tooth moving back into position. My lower teeth though, theres no tooth to "move back into postion" so I am wondering how this will work too. They did tell me that my lips will not be as full once my teeth are all aligned again. I am worried about the sunken look too- as my canine tooth right now is up closer to my nose than the rest of my teeth.

Extractions are not always bad. In fact, in some situations, it is better to have extractions than not to have teeth removed. Each plan is going to be completely different and proper planning and treatment will ensure that you do not end up with a sunken look or narrow smile.
If you trust your doctor's experience and have communicated your concerns to him/her, then there is not much to worry about. However, if you are unsure, speak to him/her before going to see someone else.

Some doctors feel that extractions are never necessary. For some, it could be a "cookie cutter" response as extracting the 4 pre-molars (bicuspids) was a standard way to begin treatment 10-15 years ago. The trend these days is towards non-extraction cases, except when absolutely necessary. Talk to your doctor, and always get a second and third opinion. But none of this helps you, Jay. I have never heard of teeth being re-implanted. At this point, you just have to trust that your orthodontist knows they are doing. Good luck.
