Wire free of end brackets - both sides - help please

    Hi there,

Oops I've done something silly. I was eating something I shouldn't have and, after cleaning my teeth thoroughly, it's clear that the wire has popped out of place from each of the brackets on my two bottom anchor back teeth.

It's not broken as such - just no longer fixed in to the back teeth brackets.

Sorry if this sounds wooly, I'm not sure how to word it. Help Please?

Best to give your ortho's office a call and let them know what happened and see what they say.

This happened to me a couple of times, when the wire was really thin and I was at the start of treatment. The third time it happened, my ortho told me not to worry about it next time. So you gotta just see what your ortho says.
Bonded retainers fitted upper and lower & braces removed at 19 months 2 weeks.

    Braces were:

    In-Ovation C on the top
    Damon on the bottom

    Hi Josie

Thanks for the advice. I'll call the ortho department on Mon but unfortunately she's part-time and only works a Tue and Wed. So glad I'm not alone.

I have a very thin wire at the moment (the smallest size) but was told after my first tightening adjustment on Wed that at my next appt (February) I would be getting a change of wire to the next size up.

I'm not sure if the wire has actually broken or not but obviously it has disconnected from the bracket on both sides and of course there is no tension in the wire whatsoever now.

Feeling a bit despondent as was told each time I broke my brace it sets you back 3 months - and as you'll see from my post I haven't even had mine fitted 3 months so you could say I'm back to square one.

    Appreciate the reply.

    Steph

Gosh, that sounds a bit dire. Surely not...

They may say different where you're from Coconut by my ortho was very specific when she said each break costs you 3 months. She even emphasised it by adding if you break it 4 times over the course of your treatment - you'll be wearing your brace a whole year longer than anticipated. As my bottom brace is on for 2.5 years anyway, it really aint good news.

I find it hard to believe that 1 mishap would be 3 months. Now, unless you waited 2 weeks to call your ortho about a break, I might find that accurate...

The Crime: Protruding upper canine, upper and lower crowding.
    Sentence: 2 years
    Fine: $4,100
First day with brackets: 12/05/2011. 4 Extractions: 12/12/11. 1st Adjustment: 01/04/12. 2nd Adjustment: 2/15/12 Pulling the canine down. 3rd Adjustment 3/28/12 (canine's in the wire, and pulled into position!). 4th adjustment: 5/16/2012 (closing the gaps!)

Actually I broke it Saturday night and it cannot be fixed until Wednesday. I will double check with Ortho on the timescale it sets you back on Wednesday and report back here for reference.

3 months??! I doubt that you would have a setback that far back if the bracket is only off for 4 days. Teeth don't regress that much in 4 days. Good luck at your appointment!

    That's what I would think.
