How do you think my smile looks?

I have had braces for almost 10 months. My orthodontist said I am to get an x-ray this week because it means I am coming close to the end of my treatment. This shocked me because I still have a small gap between my front two teeth and my bite is not perfect yet. The ortho said they may have to file down the sides of my front two teeth in order to close the gap in my front teeth? I found that weird! But anyway I have put up some pictures of my teeth before, the first day i got braces and now so let me know what you think of my new and nearly complete smile Thanks!!

These are photos of my teeth before braces (p.s sorry about the bit of food in my teeth):

Your teeth really do look amazing!! I have seen several instances on this forum where people would get their teeth shaved to close gaps, and the gaps would close pretty quickly!

I just had my braces put on last Thursaday and my othodontist said they may need to shave/file my two front teeth to close the gap between them. The braces can only bring them but so close together until the shape of you teeth prevents them from getting any closer, that's the way they explained it to me.

I think your smile looks great!! Your have a gap between your two front teeth because they are somewhat triangular in shape. Imagine putting 2 triangles side by side, you’d end up with an inverted triangular space between them. In order to minimize the dark space or “black triangle”, the ortho will have to file off the adjacent sides of the 2 teeth ... similar to removing the adjacent tips of 2 triangles to reduce the inverted triangular space between them.

    Why not a gum graft?

Shaving two teeth and bringing them together with power chains is much easier than doing a gum graft.
