    Possible staining problem?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm starting to notice the area between my teeth are browning a bit and my bottom teeth are turning yellow. I brush my teeth 2-3 times a week depending on what I eat, I use a mouth wash, and I've just started flossing but for only a months time I never expected such drastic staining.

I definitely expected some staining but I'm seeing hints of white stains and I'm guessing the way the brackets are positioned on my lower teeth make it harder to brush against the gum line with any effectiveness. I do plan on flossing more but am I overreacting? Any suggestions?

Any feedback would help I'm really freaking out over these stains.

Um well first, just to clarify this, you're only brushing your teeth 2-3 times a week? That's how many times you should be brushing per day. Also, what kind of toothpaste/brush are you using? Flossing, from my experience so far, is so important. I never used to do it, like hardly ever till I got my braces and holy I now know why it's so important. I know you said you're doing it, but just keep doing it every time you brush. But honestly, if you did mean to say 2-3 times a week, that's probably were the majority of those stains are coming from. Or maybe I'm just reading things wrong? I think it is a little more normal to get yellow-er looking teeth with braces, but it shouldn't get too dramatic.

I meant per day loool. I'm using an Oral B toothbrush and Crest All Pro tooth paste. My top teeth are in good shape it's just my bottom teeth that are troubling me

You may need to buy a childs toothbrush to get into the areas a normal toothbrush wont. Or you could buy some proxa brushes to access those areas.

My ortho told me to place the brush on the gum and 'sweep' the brush up towards the tooth (this is for the bottom teeth, for uppers sweep the brush downwards) and this way you are brushing away from the gums and are likely to target that tiny area of tooth between the gum line and bracket. My Ortho also said this will stop me pushing my gums up as I have some gum recession from brushing too hard.

With regards to the staining, this could be the products you are using. If you can, check the ingredients list (especially your mouthwash) and see if it contains: Cetylpyridinium chloride, if it does this is probably what's causing the brown staining as it's known to cause this. Another ingredient to check for is Chlorhexidine (although this ingredient tends to be in medicle type mouthwashes like Corsodyl. Either way, these two ingredients are known to cause brown staining on the teeth.

I found some brown staining on the inside of my lower incisors as well, but I think those stains have been there for a while.

IHIC I didn't know about Cetylpyridinium chloride! I will have to check my mouthwash thanks!
