Does chewing really help braces pain???

I have been reading online, and everything I read has been conflicting. Some articles say it helps, and others say it doesn't, you're just in a lot of pain for nothing if you're trying to chew.

I just got my first powerchain on the bottom arch, and this sucker HURTS!! This is the most pain I think I've experienced so far in braces.

I have my Advil, and my wax, but I just want this pain to go away.

Just wondering what everyone's experience here has been.

I had 2 power chains on the lower, only extending from the molar to the canines, not fully across all teeth. But I think it's like any adjustment, take it easy for a couple days on the chewing. It will get better after a week.

The Crime: Protruding upper canine, upper and lower crowding.
    Sentence: 2 years
    Fine: $4,100
First day with brackets: 12/05/2011. 4 Extractions: 12/12/11. 1st Adjustment: 01/04/12. 2nd Adjustment: 2/15/12 Pulling the canine down. 3rd Adjustment 3/28/12 (canine's in the wire, and pulled into position!). 4th adjustment: 5/16/2012 (closing the gaps!)

Too Funny i just got my powerchains a few weeks ago. LOL Mine only hurt for a few days and then it was fine so I am sure the pain will go away. I have noticed that once in a while one side or a couple of teeth will be super sensitive and i tend to shy away from biting on that side. I guess that really didn't answear your question; sorry.

When I had a power chain added and started elastics that was the most pain my mouth has ever been in!!! I don't like taking drugs or pain relievers of any kind, so I pretty much just tough it out. The pain should go away in a few days. Now when I get my chains replaced it will hurt for a day or two. Nothing too bad anymore.
