Post 3 months till, need help

    Hi all,
I recently went to an ortho, and am scheduled to come back to get braces on in about 3 months, or as soon as my molars come up enough to place brackets on them. (I'm 16 and my 12 year old molars have still just started to sprout) I was wondering if anyone in this community could tell me what I should expect, when I get my braces and throughout the treatment process. Should I have asked to get brackets on earlier to start and get done faster, or are molars required for braces? I'm completely new to this, so all information helps.
    Thanks!

hey there this is my 4th year with braces and yes you do need to molar bands for braces, not too sure why but you. And when your molars grow you will need what they call spacers which make a gap in between Ur molars so the bands can fit on. Also getting the braces on procedure is really simple and nothing to worry about, i wont lie to you, there is some pain (pressure) on the teeth that night and the following however many days, but take some ibuprofen (Advil if you live in America) So yeah you will get used to having metal in your mouth within 1-2 weeks of having them. Also a little note, you know when your close to having them off when they give u elastics to wear and powerchains. Check YouTube there's plenty of videos on there. Hope i helped.

    Good luck x

Not all people with braces need molar bands. My ortho used regular molar brackets on my molars. I guess it depends on your ortho and what he/she wants to do. Your ortho knows what's best and what your plan will be. Expect a lot of soreness in the beginning and at each adjustment. Drink LOTS of water and use wax on your brackets when you get sores. Also try to take progress pictures of your teeth using the same camera angles every week or 2 weeks to see progress. Good luck!

So would you reccomend that I email my ortho to find out more about this and any other treatment info in advance? I also believe that my ortho doesn't use molar bands with braces, so any other ideas on why I need to wait?

They might be going over your treatment plan. I wouldn't be too concerned. Nothing you can really prepare yourself for and you will be going through a lot of new experiences once you get them.
