Hidden Braces

If you were to go to an orthodontist ten or even five years ago, there were not many options for you that were completely hidden.   Ceramic braces were the most popular however, the wire is still very visible and doesn' t exactly offer a hidden braces treatment.

Well today, you are lucky enough to have several different products available to you in the wonderful world of orthodontics.  The number one fear of getting braces is the traditional appearance that comes to mind when hearing the word.   It will take quite some to phase out the idea that braces have an ugly appearance, but in due time we think it will.

With technologies that use aligners such as Invisalign, no longer do you have to wear metal brackets on each tooth and go in for adjustments to the wire.  Invisalign offers a set of aligners that allow for each aligner to move teeth over the time.   While Invisalign cost may be on the higher side, patients are having no problem putting out the additional money for the hidden braces like treatment.

While not all patients are candidates for Invisalign, there are not other hidden braces on the market such as iBraces that put the brackets on the back of the teeth.   There are been many celebrities and athletes that have worn braces behind their teeth as to get their smile corrected without affecting media appearances and such.

As time goes on, more and more hidden braces technologies are coming on the market.  We recently met with a person who featured the new Ice Braces brackets that features a very clear bracket that we found much more hidden than traditional ceramic brackets.

So if you are looking to hide your braces, you have several options.   Your situation will determine which braces you decide to go with whether it is a financial or case situation.  Usually patients with serious bite issues such as an underbite as better off to stick with traditional metal braces, however there have been cases documented with the new technologies that have turned out great.

Clear braces are just the beginning in the revolution of orthodontics.   We look forward to more companies and ideas enter the market in 2010 to continue to make orthodontics fun and not be scared of the prospect of several years of a metal grill.
