How Do Braces Work?

Braces are the oldest form of correcting teeth crowding and spaces.  For several decades orthodontic braces have been used by orthodontist and dentist to correct the teeth of their patients.

Braces are attached to each tooth and then a wire is passed through each bracket.  The patient will go back to the orthodontist every 3 to 4 weeks to keep the braces tightened and adjusted.

Over a period of an average of 2 years the braces are fine tuned to give the patient a corrective smile, appearance, and bite.

Today, there are many different types of braces and orthodontic treatments available to consumers.  The most traditional metal braces are still used in most cases, as they are very durable and can help correct severe cases much more prominently than ceramic or invisible braces.

For less severe cases, invisible braces that use clear retainers or aligners are used.  The obvious advantage to these types of braces is that they are hidden and even your best friends can hardly notice you are wearing them.

There are advantages and disadvantages to all types of braces treatments.  We recommend you seek a couple different orthodontist opinions before getting braces for yourself or your child.
