How to get Braces for Free

Let’s face it. Braces aren’t cheap. In fact, they are one of the more expensive orthodontic treatments out there. The cost of braces treatment can run into a few thousand dollars.
Although it can be difficult to find braces treatment for free, you may still have a few options worth considering.

The first source of information must be your orthodontist. Talk to him about your concerns about the cost of treatment. He may be able to point you towards low cost braces treatment programs in your area.

It might be worth looking into charitable organizations that pay for the cost of braces treatment. These organizations cover the cost of braces for people who fall into low income groups, and may not be able to afford braces.

Ask your insurance company if they cover braces treatment. Many plans don’t offer cover, but they may offer you suggestions.
Look at dental discount plans if you can’t afford dental insurance. You can pay into a dental discount plan, and get a discount on your treatment
See if your company has a dental plan that you can enroll in. Ask if they cover the cost of braces work, or at least a part of it.

See if you can find an orthodontist who is willing to slash his rates for you. The cost of treatment can vary from anywhere between $3000 and $7000 for a child.  This can depend on the geographic area, as well as the orthodontist. Sometimes, older orthodontists, who have been in the field for several years, may take on special cases where they knock off a portion of their treatment costs as community service.

Ask your orthodontist for any sliding payment plan that he can offer. While this won’t help you get your braces for free, it can make it easier for you to cover the cost of treatment.
In case of mild orthodontic treatment, see if your family dentist can perform the procedure for you. Mild treatment may not require specialized care, and you will save on specialist’s fees.

Check if you qualify for Medicare. Some states treat orthodontic treatment as essential treatment.

Call your local Salvation Army, church or synagogue. They may be able to cover the cost of your treatment. Even if they can’t, they may be able to direct you to charity groups or other resources that may help you.

Check out your local dental college. They may be able to offer braces treatment at very low rates. However, it’s important to note that treatment in a dental college hospital may be performed by dental students under the watchful eye of an orthodontist.

It can be hard to find free braces, but low-cost dental treatment is easier to find. Bear in mind that nothing in life comes free, and you may have to pay at least a part of the cost.
