I’m Getting My Braces Off

All good things are said to come to and end, however getting braces off is just the beginning of a new life with your naked teeth.

Once your orthodontist agrees that your teeth are as straight as possible with your braces treatment, he will start the post braces treatment.

You will go in on a regular visit and have molds made of your teeth while the braces are on.  The orthodontist will then choose which kind of retainers to issue you.  The traditional retainers are sent out and ordered and take about 2 to 3 weeks to return to the office.  So you will usually be sent home and made a new appointment.

However if the orthodontist is setup to make invisible retainers on spot, the molds will be done and the retainers will be processed in 2 to 3 hours.  Your braces will come off and the retainers will be given the same day.  These retainers cannot be adjusted so the post braces appointments are not as important.

If you are giving the traditional retainers, your orthodontist will recommend you wear them all day EVERYDAY.  The first 2 to 4 weeks are absolutely crucial that you wear them.

Once your teeth are naked, you may begin to brush, floss, and rinse as normal to get your teeth and gums in optimal condition.  Some even recommend you get a deep cleaning from your dentist as your prior cleanings with braces are not as thorough as they need to be.

Good luck and enjoy you beautiful teeth.
