Invisalign Buttons

Invisalign buttons are attachments that are used to help the teeth move towards each other. These buttons are tools to accelerate the process of movement of teeth. They work by providing your Invisalign braces a wider surface area to grip. Generally, they are used to bring a tooth down or perform another specific tooth movement. For instance, teeth that have round surfaces may not turn easily unless the tray has something to hold on to. Buttons can be used for certain sections of the teeth, allowing some teeth to move while others remain stationary. Buttons will also be used to help keep the liners in position, when you are wearing an elastic.

How are Buttons Attached to Teeth

The buttons are actually bonded to teeth. You dentist will make use of an aligner template combined with a white filling material. The material will be chosen to match the color of your teeth. Your dentist will then bond the buttons temporarily to your teeth.

Invisalign attachments come in different shapes.  The largest can measure approximately 4mm into 2mm into 1mm. Attachments generally come in square or rectangular shape. They may be beveled, so that they are not as visible on the teeth. These attachments also help in the case of aligners that don’t fit correctly. 

Buttons are a metal or clear auxiliary that the dentist will bond to the tooth to allow the elastic to adhere to it. Buttons are quite similar to braces. Your dentist may need to trim your aligner to allow the button to bond to the tooth. 

Attachments are part of the Invisalign experience, although not all patients will need buttons. Some kinds of attachments will be necessary for facilitating certain movements of the teeth. The attachments can take some getting used to.  After a while, patients become used to them because they are wearing aligners for so many hours a day. The buttons will stay on for the duration of treatment.  The dentist will remove them when he finds that the teeth have moved to the desired position.
