Removable Braces

In today’s growing market of dental technology there are many options available to teenagers and adults whom want to get their teeth straightened and smile improved.  The latest is braces that are invisible and/or removable such as Invisalign.  With this technology your braces treatment goes virtually unnoticed from your peers.

Removable braces are used mainly where there is not much movement needed and for non severe cases.  However products such as Invisalign are showing great results for mild cases all over the world.  We recommend you talk to your orthodontist and get several opinions before you jump into any one treatment.  You will find that the opinions from orthodontist vary quite a bit and this is why we also recommend you get a referral from a friend or family member who had a good experience with a particular Portland orthodontist.

If you case is severe such as major crowding or bite issues, than most likely removable braces will not be an option for you.  The traditional metal braces give the orthodontist more options and flexibility when changing the shape and doing major movement to you teeth.  Options such as power chains, palatal expanders, and head gear can be used in conjunction with metal braces and are still very effective today although it is old technology.

Bottom line is that metal braces will continue to be a good option for mild to severe cases, but removable and invisible braces are making breakthroughs and being presented to new patients daily.
