That could be anywhere between thirty days to a year from the purchase of the plan. The policy can also be renewed to extend the cover for more name of months or a year. However, to be able to extend the plan, you should not have made any claims during the plan period. If you have claimed benefits under your plan, then you may find it harder to renew the plan, and could also be looking at higher premiums.

The biggest advantage of a short term plan apart from its flexibility and convenience is that you aren’t restricted to only those dentists that are mentioned in the insurance company’s network. So, you can go back to the same dentist that you visited when you were covered under your employer's insurance policy. However, the policies may change from company to company, and you should check with your insurer, and not make any assumptions. Generally, short term plans don’t insist on a choice of dentists.
