Sports and Wearing Braces |
If you actively play sports and wear braces than there are a couple aspects to consider. If you face is not protected than there is a chance that you may be hit in the mouth area causing a bracket to break or even worse. A mouth guard is a necessity with any sport however when wearing braces it is absolutely mandatory. A mouth guard is fitted over your braces and worn rather snug to avoid direct contact with your lip and braces. In many cases where a football player or basketball player is injured in the mouth area, the mouth guard protected the teeth and braces. You can get a mouth guard at your local drug or sports store, however if you have a bite issue and need a custom mouth guard, you will need to ask your orthodontist or dentist. Don’t risk not wearing the mouth guard as the consequences are too great for an injury to the mouth. Not only are you damaging your brackets, but you may also be adding to your treatment time and not taking advantage of the fastest treatment time. |
