The Pursuit of that Benefit From Metal Braces

Orthodontics is a branch of medical science dealing with dental care specializing in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities by using corrective dental devices such as teeth braces. Braces put teeth irregularities or malocclusions in place and correct the gums and jaw bone. Some may even be for purposes of simplifying later treatments or to avoid the braces all together.  The orthodontist will particularly extract a couple of teeth if it’s overcrowded to give way to other teeth, and straighten it out by putting the metal braces. They’re not as “innovative,” but many patients got splendid results.

Orthodontic braces have gone a long way since the “metal mouth” days, except for the treatment duration. There are actually a lot of types of braces to choose from; however the more choices, the more expensive they become. What we have today is more for beauty and fashion compared to the metal brace that is gawky and completely obvious. So does it mean no more “metal-mouth look?” Of course not! Actually all of these types of braces have proven good results.

What goes along with having braces are the fairly extreme appointments a person has to keep! When it’s finally removed, it’s then replaced with retainers placed behind the teeth so as it stays in the new position. The cost of metal braces ranges from $2,000 to $3,000 or more if the braces are more aesthetic. Metal braces are less in style, yet the intentions are the same. I guess the question now is, why prefer the metal braces when it’s not so attractive and less desirable?

Here are some of the reasons:

  • Less expensive treatment: Metal braces are usually covered by the health insurance. The money you save can even get you something that will outlast the braces or can take you anyplace. Sometimes when the increase in cost becomes the issue, the result takes longer than expected.
  • Manageable: Paradoxically, dental appliances that are more aesthetic are hard to manage, even if those are what most people opt for.
  • Durability: The metal or the stainless steel braces are the most long lasting and efficient. They never break and easily handled. It’s pliable, especially now that it’s combined nickel and titanium. The more attractive braces, movements and exertion can be limited and quite fragile.
  • Bring about amazing results: Straight teeth, correct bite, self-confidence, beautiful smile, higher self-esteem.
  • Efficient: Four elements of the metal braces and the functions:
  • Archwire - holds all elements in situ; brackets are attached that goes from left to right; draws the teeth to go up, down and rotate to set the teeth in place.
  • Ligatures - ties the traditional braces to the archwire.
  • Bracket - adhered on the teeth with a bonder; takes the force of the archwire and the elastics to the tooth. Brackets vary depending on the type of the tooth.
  • Elastics - used if there should be any problems with the jaw; an integral part during the treatment and having them on is worth all the efforts.

The downside, although, wearing braces place you at a larger risk of having tooth and gum problems, so you need to give more attention in cleaning the teeth exhaustively. Obviously, having that “Hollywood(y)” smile in the end is not about the braces, but you alone can make or break the painstaking treatment.
