Wow so it's been forevvvver since I was last on here.

I'm now well into stage 2 of refinements and have just gotten a retainer for my lower arch but I was wondering, should an essix retainer cover all of your teeth? For some reason mine stops halfway across my last molar. It's kind of annoying because my tongue catches on it all the time and where my orthodontist wanted to put pressure with the retainer there's no pressure whatsoever. I'm only meant to be wearing it for like a month as an alternative to my gross old aligner but if it needs to cover all my teeth is it worth it?

If you only have to wear it for a month, I'm going to guess that it isn't crucial that the retainer go all the way to the back of your last molar.

Great to have you back! The rule of thumb is that an aligner or retainer should cover at least half of the most terminal tooth to prevent it from overerupting. Sometimes it isn't possible or desirable to capture the entire tooth in the retainer while at other times, it could be because of the record of the teeth taken limiting the fabrication of the retainer. Good luck!

I've finally had to cave and wear it now that my last bottom aligner snapped :(. It's 10x harder to get off since it's a thicker material and I still have my attachments on. I'm a little worried though because it's pressing on one tooth at the front and turning the gum white. I assume its part of the movement he's trying to achieve but it actually looks like where theres a bit of bent in plastic at the bottom below the actually tooth :/
