    The aftermath of Elastics wear?

So I've been looking for this answer, in scientific terms lol, and I can't find any literature on it anywhere. I thought I'd risk sounding like a noob and ask here to see if anyone can enlighten me.

I've just gotten elastics on this month for my Overjet, and while I HAVE learned that contrary to popular belief, elastics move TEETH and not JAW, right? However, my question is this:

When braces align your teeth, you then wear a retainer to maintain the alignment. However, what prevents the straightened teeth from pushing forward and giving me another overjet in the future? I'm so interested in what goes on with my teeth so I'm curious how this is.

    Thanks!
    Kris

  2. Very interested in the answer also. I am in my 30's, and am close to getting my braces
off, but I keep stalling because I don't think my overjet looks good enough yet.
